Knock Knock....Who's There?

Hey...psst...over here. I'm putting my toes back into the luxurious waters of blogland once again. Is it cold? Has anything interesting washed ashore while I've been gone?

And I did a terrible job of keeping up with all the blogs I love. It would make me happy if you could leave me a link or two for your favorite posts from the last two months. That way I can read and enjoy your part of the world once again.

And I'm going to try restructuring my blog a bit. Although I am a storyteller through and through, I know stories can get a little old for the reader. My life is as sedate and boring as a half used tube of toothpaste, so I'm not good at giving a recounting of my day, either.

But I will try to mix in short question pieces, like this one, with a few stories now and then, since stories are what make my soul tick.

I have some new projects in the works, and my time reading blogs is going to be a bit more limited, but I do plan to read yours at least a couple of times a week.

OK. Now for your question. What is the best meal you've eaten in the last two months? Don't be spare in your descriptions. I'm on a diet and this will be the only way I can enjoy really tasty food.

Teenaged Daughter taught me what chunkin' up the deuces is. (I think/ hope it means see you later.) I don't know why the picture is backwards, but I was driving here while she was posing.

  1. The best meal I have eaten in the last two months was a pizza from Old Chicago...it was legendary :)

  2. Shelly!!!!! Long time no see. I was elated just now to read your comment.
It'll be super to have you post on your blog again now and then.

Question # 1 --- You know me. Shrimp. Deep fat fried butterflied shrimp. Sweet and tender, fresh from the Gulf catch that morning. Of course the meal is to 'die for' probably...literally. All the fat content and frying. But that is really the only way I like shrimp. Battered, fried golden brown and hot with horseradish sauce for dipping.

    1. HOOTIN ANNI: And how can you stay away from shrimp in our locale? Oh, that horseradish sauce, or the King's Inn tartar sauce...yum!!! It's good to be back!

  3. Oh Welcome back you have been missed. I miss your stories and I know there are many, I know even if your life you describe as boring your head is full of adventure, writers are like that.
I cannot remember last week or last month but I do remember going somewhere in Toronto and having Sushi while with my girls not sure if it was just the sushi or the incredible company. I know you get that one. HUGS B

  4. Good to see you back Shelly. I don't think I could ever get bored with your stories, they are always a wonderful read and I really enjoy them. I am not sure what meal was the best I have eaten in the last month, I know there has been several. I have a new look to my blog too. Here are a couple of links to foods that I enjoyed in the last while... http://www.wordsofdeliciousness.com/2014/07/blueberry-cream-cheese-and-oats-scones.html and

  5. Rejoice! Shelly is back! Do not doubt that you have been missed.

As for best meal, I am such an omnivore that I can't think of a bad meal I have had recently. For good, how about this: New York strip (we broil one and share it), steamed asparagus spears, one-half Idaho baked potato with butter and black pepper, and for dessert, six Washington State bing cherries? A coast-to-coast dinner!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. vanilla: Now that sounds terrific! I like the sharing part, too. My hubs still likes his own whole portion, but someday we'll get there, too. Bing cherries? Those are the bomb!

  6. Best meal? Hmmm. Well I had a cold corn and scallop (they were freshly grilled) soup the other day that, had I been wearing socks, would've sent them across the room.

    Yep. THAT good.

You've been missed, dear Shell. Welcome back.

  7. Welcome back! I missed you :)

Spaghetti with olive oil, fresh tomatoes, sliced black and green olives, garlic, and Parmesan. One of my favorite summer dishes with a big tossed salad and a glass of Chianti. Buon appetito!

And of course, brisket. With charro beans and homemade potato salad.

    Happy Weekend!

My best meal was probably homemade pizza, because it was the first non-bland food I had in awhile (digestive issues) ... and there were no problems, so maybe I can have a few more good things from here on :) What a lovely picture of your daughter - she is a beautiful girl.

  10. Like you, I consider myself a storyteller and I have no interest in rambling on about my day. You are an extremely gifted storyteller and it makes my day when I see you've posted one of your engaging stories. Having said this, I'll read whatever you decide to post.

The best meal I've had recently was a mixture of Mexican rice with linguica and fresh parsley. If you aren't familiar with it, linguica is a Portuguese sausage similar to chorizo.

The best meal I've had in the last two months was something Dagan made when I was over. (Confession--it had chicken in it, but I do break the vegetarian rules a few times a year). Cubed chicken, all kinds of fresh cubed & rough cut veggies, and fresh mushrooms in a pesto alfredo sauce over bowtie pasta...all perfectly cooked. Delicious! Probably especially good because I didn't have to cook it or clean up--LOL! ;)

Well, just over a week ago I had a wonderful Turkish meal, with salad, breads, lamb, chicken, fish, yogurt, wine and more wine plus a good glug of raki. Oh My Days, the food was great. Shrimp, rice, slivered vegetables. Beef in a most delicious sauce that I can't describe! And a ripe mango shake.

  23. Dear Shelly, like you, I'm re-entering the blogging world today. The best meal I've eaten lately is one I cooked myself. All so easy and so basic. I cooked five large fresh beets--right out of the ground-- for over an hour in vinegared water and then peeled off, so easily, their skins. For five suppers I had a beet, cut into chunks, with melted butter and salt and pepper on it. Plus . . . fresh corn on the cob each night also and fresh tomatoes and cucumbers in a tarragon vinegar. And for dessert--fresh Missouri peaches. The whole meal--for five nights--was a taste delight. The farmers' market is nirvana right now. Peace.

  25. Shelly--

#1 Meal--just about any dinner at my grandma's. Some kind of cheap meat cooked until it was tender, mashed potatoes, homemade rolls, out-of-this-world gravy, vegetables fresh from the garden.

#2 Meal--a potato and cheese casserole in France, under the shadow of the Pyrenees. Cream, onion, bits of ham along with the cheese and the potatoes.

I just returned from a four state tour that included the desert southwest and California and I enjoyed many excellent meals during my travels. One of the most memorable consisted of whitefish stuffed with shrimp and octopus along with shrimp enchiladas. Needless to say, I need to do some dieting, too, after consuming a dozen or more meals like that in recent weeks!
