The 400 Pound Gift

My husband is one of the most generous people I know. In the last month, he's given me Flower Bomb perfume and some cool wrap around sunglasses for running. For Mother's Day, he gave me some kickin' sting ray leather boots that I LOVE.

So when he came home yesterday and called out, "Honey, come see the present I got you!", visions of lovely things danced through my head. A new purse? That cute top I'd been eyeing? Maybe even that chunky silver bracelet?

"Come on, you have to come outside to see it. It's too big to bring into the house."

Those earlier thoughts evaporated to small bits and fell out of my head. Big? I didn't need a new car, we had plenty of cows already...what could it be?

I had to squint for a few minutes to adjust to the searing sunlight as he led me to his truck. I could just make out something very large and dark in the back.

"Well, what do you think?" he asked with anticipation.

I finally was able to focus on what it actually was.

"It weighs 400 pounds, honey. It's a radial, too!" He was so happy to have found this for me.

It was a tractor tire. A 400 pound tractor tire.

I am doing a summer workout that involves a tractor tire. (Summer Bootcamp)

I had mentioned to him the tractor tire I had been using was getting to be not much of a challenge because I had grown used to its weight and parts of it were starting to come off when I pounded it with the sledgehammer.

He had spent parts of two days looking to find just the right tractor tire for me.

I love my tractor tire and I love my man for all the ways he thinks of me. Maybe a tractor tire is not a diamond ring, but it shows me how much he supports me in my fitness journey so I can live a long, productive life. And that means the world to me.

  3. What a thoughtful gift! I am trying to imagine you pounding a huge tire with a sledgehammer, but it's difficult.

  4. A tractor tire is better than a diamond ring!

  5. Belle: I think it is very thoughtful- thank you! And yes, I pound and flip it until I am black from the tire rubber. It is quite the strange sight.

Missed Periods: I totally agree with you and I never have to worry about the tire being stolen or lost!
