Well, I Never...

What have you never done? ( I borrowed this meme idea from my blogging friend vanilla.)

I have never:

  • Had coffee to drink in my life.  I grew up with a family who drinks it by the gallon, and I love how it smells, but never had the inclination to try it.
  • Taken a math class I liked. Not once in all of public school, college, or grad school. Never failed one, but they are just...bleh.
  • Been to New York City or Alaska. Both are on my bucket list, though.
  • Missed spending a Chistmas with my family, including aunts, uncles, and cousins.
  • Been able to do a back handspring. Believe it or not, I am working on it, though!
  • Had full hearing. I am completely deaf in one ear and have 80% hearing in the other, but most people wouldn't know it if I didn't tell.

What have you never done? Come on, inquiring minds are waiting...

  1. I have never been in a hot air balloon or a helicopter. I see the army helicopters flying over my head, practicing all the time as we live be West Point Military Academy and I so want to wave them to stop and give me a ride. I don't think they will give a grandma a ride and take their chances of me getting sick. Bah!

Seriously, if you have not been to NY City, I would love to show you around. My husband and I have only a two bedroom condo, but we try to be as hospitable as possible. If you can afford there are beautiful places you can stay in.
NY is still a very nice place to visit.

I've been to Spain numerous times, and my husband and I honeymooned there. You'll love it. Plus the people are very friendly towards Americans, which you don't always find in foreign countries.

      Hope you get to go!

I have also never had a broken bone or, like you, had a sip of coffee.

  4. Don't let my profile picture fool you, Shelly. I've never smoked a pipe. I never learned to use my right hand to write, draw or operate gadgets and appliances, most of which were designed with right handers in mind. I never intentionally ate butter or margarine. I know that Mrs. Shady uses them in her recipes but we have adopted a "don't ask, don't tell" policy. I never had children. I have a bottomless well of love to give those who need and want it but, strangely, I never felt the parenting urge or instinct. I hope all is well with you at the present time, dear friend Shelly, and I wish you a safe and happy weekend!

  5. I have never been able to do a cartwheel, let alone any type of handspring. I think my feet were meant to be on the ground. ;-)

I have never broken a bone. (Probably because I'm gymnastically-challenged!)

I have never visited each State in the United States, although that is on my bucket list.

I have never been to Vatican City or Israel, although I would love to visit both. (Religious history makes me happy.)

Thanks for asking, Shelly! Be well...

I HAVE broken a bone or well, my 2 bottom leg bones broke apart from my ankle....and it's not all it's cracked up to be...there's a pun in there somewhere I think

    I have never...had a pedicare

  17. Dearest Shelly,
OMG, *never had full hearing, either; innately my right ear doesn't have hearing as the ear drum is broken. And left side has almost half capacity... I'm using hearing-aid. *never missed having green tea in the morning since I have memory p;) (you sure surprised me about coffee, haha) *never missed new year with my side of immediate family. But next year, I may not be able to bring him to my house as he no longer can walk properly. *never thought of to try a back handspring even if I think it amazing(^o^)

    1. orchid: Oh, I did not know you dealt with hearing loss, also, my dear friend Miyako! I do very well as long as I can see the person's mouth when they are talking. Hearing aids wouldn't help me because of the kind of deafness I have.

I don't drink tea, either, as I gave up caffiene several years ago. I do hope you will be able to all be together as a family on New Year's. I am determined to master this back handspring!

    2. Dear Shelly,
I do admire that you can read people's lips. I just wonder if English would be easier than Japanese.
As for caffiene, I tried hard not to have tea once. After I became 50 years old ,I had restless-legs which can be caused less dopamine ad also caffiene. But I failed and failed. haha, a weak will I have. I admire you on that point as well, my friend☆☆☆
Well, I don't have any ability to play musical instrument(^^;) My hubby said that you have keen eye noticing it, hehe.

  21. Dear Shelly, I'm going to tell you just a couple of things I've never done but wanted to. (There are many, many, zillions, of things I've never done, but I don't want to do them!) I've never traveled by boat to the various Greek Islands like Delos and Santorini and Mykonos. And I so want to. Also, I've never learned to easily translate classical Greek into modern English. That, too, is on my bucket list. Ah, the years pass, the bucket list remains, and the will weakens! Peace.

    1. Dee: That's an impressive list, made even more so by the fact they are still your goals! And "easily translate classical Greek into modern English"- wow! I would be happy to translate it even with difficulty~

  22. Hi Shelly,
This is so creative! I love it as a writing prompt and plan to use it this week during our lessons.
I have never tasted chicken feet, and even thought I enjoy crunchy I don't plan to try one. I never achieved my childhood dream of being a public school teacher. I never followed a strong urge I had once to be an anthropologist because I thought it was a requirement to travel to a rainforest and go native. I never learned how to immediately give up my drive to argue for something I strongly believe is right. I never worshiped in a Buddist temple. I never entered a race although I have been running for 12 years.

    Replies
    1. Jenny: Oh, you and I think alike. It's in my lesson plans for a writing assignment for this coming week! I enjoyed reading your list, and I think some of those things are still on the horizon for you. But chicken feet...well, I don't think I could stomach that, either!

  23. What a wonderful idea!

I have never learned how to swim and just do my best to pretend. That makes me look like a total klutz in the water. LOL

As much as I keep trying, I have never been able to fully get over my debilitating fear of heights. I still get shaky on a stepladder! That means no bungee jumping or skydiving for me—except, maybe, for my 90th birthday because...wow, what a way to go! :D
